Information about the Chair of Criminal Law

The Chair of Criminal Law comprises currently 17 scientist, including 1 full professor – (K. Daszkiewicz), 2 university professors (Ł. Pohl and R. Zawłocki), 7 Doctors and 9 Ph.D students. Also, with the Chair is closely related professor emeritus, former Dean of the Faculty of Law, J.A. Szwarc.

The members of the Chair of Criminal Law participate in the international cooperation with several European universities, among which the exchange with Viadrina European University in Frankfurt is probably the most fervent one. In January 2013, an international conference with the participation of the members from this University, (as well as University of Salzburg) was a chance to exchange thoughts on the criminal aspects of causing death or grievous bodily harm. Next conferences are scheduled, yet the precise date is still to be settled.

The main fields of investigation of the members of the Chair are:

  • principles of criminal liability,
  • economic crimes, tax crimes,
  • EU criminal law,
  • sports law
  • criminal law theory.

Especially the latter investigation, continuing the traditions of the so-called Poznan School of Theory of Law, established as soon as in the 1960ties by such a prominent figures Z. Ziembiński has special importance.

The Chair of Criminal Law is renown for the prolific scientific publications and involvement in the critic and development the vigilant Penal Code of Poland form 6th of June 1997. The Chair also organizes scientific conferences, with the all-Poland meeting of the Young Penal Law Scientist taking place each year in April to be mentioned in the first place.

The Chair of Criminal Law offers courses in English for the international students, featuring the most important matters of the Polish Penal Code in the comparative and interdisciplinary perspective.
