prof. zw. dr hab. dr h.c. Andrzej Jan Szwarc

Prof. Andrzej J. Szwarc was born on the 25th of May 1939 in Koło, Poland. In the years 1956 - 1961 he completed law studies at the Adam Mickiewicz University, where  in 1961 he obtained the  Master's degree  in Law. In the year 1964, after having accomplished legal apprenticeship, he passed the state exam for judges. In the year 1970 he obtained the Ph.D. in Law , in the year 1978 he wrote his habilitation thesis and was conceded the title Dr. Habil, in the year 1993 the highest scientific title of the full professor. Since 1961 he has been employed at Faculty of Law at the Adam Mickiewicz University, from the year 1998 as Professor Ordinarius. Since 2012 he is the Director of the Polish-German Institute at the Collegium Polonicum in Słubice (which is the joint institute of the Adam Mickiewicz University and the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder).
In the years 2002-2008 he headed the Chair of the Criminal Law at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. In the years 2004-2008 he nominated the Dean of the Faculty of Law at he Adam Mickiewicz University. Since 2008 he is a member of the Convent for Distinguished  Representatives at the  Adam Mickiewicz University. Since 1994 he is a professor at Eugenisz Piasecki Academy for Sports in Poznań, where he helds lectures on Sport's Law and Medical Law. As the Professor at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder he conducts the lectures and supervises the Master thesis within the joint Polish-German legal studies carried out together by the Adam Mickiewicz University and European University Viadrina in Frankfurt/Oder.
    Professor A. Szwarc has been awarded scholarships from several  foregin foundations and scientific institutions, i.a.: Alexander von Humbolt Foundation, Max-Planck-Gesellschaft,  Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst and Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation. He was also a visiting professor at several german universities: Freie Universität Berlin, Ruhr-Universität Bochum i Universität Bayreuth. He gave lectures and presented papers during national and international conferences in Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Spain, Netherlands Japan, Germany, Taiwan, United Kingdom and Italy. He has a prolific scientific oeuvre, comprising 416 positions (including 61 in foregin languages) including: 9 books, 41 editorials or co-editorials, 192 scientific articles, 86 other papers and 88 unpublished papers. He has been a member of various national  international or foregin scientific associations and organizations, as well as editorial boards of scientifc journals. In the years 1989-1998 was the General Secretary of the Societas Humboldtiana Polonorum (which is the polish  association of the former scholarship holders of  Aleksander von Humbolt Foundation). Since 1990 he is the Director of the Polish Society for Sport's Law. In the years 1995-2005 he was a member and the Director of the Arbitrary Tribunal at the Polish Olympic Committee. In the years 2007-2011 he was a member of the Committee for Legal Sciencies of the Polish Academy of Science. In the years 2007-2011 he was a judge at the State Tribunal.  
In the years 1976 and 1979 he was awarded the prizes of the Ministry for Science, Higher Education and Technology  for the outstanding results on the scientific field, in t whereas in he years 2003 and 2004 he was awarded the prize of the  Ministry for Health and Social Care for the acitivity in HIV/AIDS's prevention in Poland. In 1977 was awarded the Bronze Cross of the Merit, in 1982 – Golden Cross of the Merit, in 1994 Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, in 2003 – the Cross of the Merit of First Class of the Medal of the Federal Republic of  Germany.  In the year 2008 he was awarded Degree honoris causa  of the Euroean Univeristy in Frankfur/Oder. In 2006 he was awarded the Silver Medal of the Hipolit Cegielski's Association „Labor Omnia Vincit” in Poznan, while in 2007 the diginity of the „The Leader of the organic work” and the „Honour Hipolite's statute” awarded by this association. In 2010 he became a filister honoris causa of the Academic Corporation Magna-Polonia.
During his scientific activity he supervised 8 doctoral and 521 Master's and Diploma theses, was the reviewer in the 3 proceedings for conceding of the doctoral honoris causa title, in 3 proceedings for the professor title, in 13 habilitation proceedings (including 1 in Germany) and in 12 Doctoral Proceedings (including 4 in Germany).
